"MBA's Are Not Delivering" What is going wrong with the MBA?RAM CHARAN's Shoe Shop Methodology.

There is a very common concern and question both in the mind of
the corporates and the students"Is it worth hiring an MBA or going
and doing an MBA?" respectively.

I think it hardly matters if you are an MBA or not, business is caught,
but management can be taught which can not always be utilized/practiced
in day to day running of business. In day to day business life unlike any
other numerical subject logic don’t work always. Particularly with the
management science thing are most unpredictable, though we use
large number of tools (analytics and statistical) still things fall in line
at times. No business situations are alike and unique all are different
and has got it’s own uniqueness and characteristics..

Last month I was conducting a workshop with a large Business Group
regarding some modern management practice. We talked about Productivity
and Performance, retraining the managers to deliver to their best.

During the last one and a half years with a bid global economic scenario
Corporate are skeptical about the performance and deliverable of the
MBA’s and the engineers too.

We talked about the stretched targets to identify constrains and
how over come the constraints. The situations and style of operations
varies from place to place, and executions matters the most, it’s
becoming very complicated and competitive, so it’s a continuous
re learning and unlearning and practicing and perfecting it’s style.

I don’t think copy book style and case study oriented approach is
very effective. I think practicing is more important than studying.
It’s a continuous journey of learning and practicing.

“England is a nation of shopkeepers” Napoleon Bonaparte.
Management Guru Prof. Ram Charan echoed in the
same waybut not with the Englishmen, but the basic
lesson that he learntfrom his own family business shoe
shop in Uttar Pradesh -India.

I like Ram Charan, his approach is very effective and hands on.

I was reading Prof. Tarun Khanna’s “Billions of Entrepreneurs”
it all starts from small and humble beginning of shop keeping,
the micro practice of day to day management can be easily
leveraged to macro level.
But the DNA get structured in the way the shop keepers work.
These shopkeeper are the incubators of tomorrows Ambani, Mittals.

MBA's: What Management Schools Should Do : Reshaping Business Education.

MBA degree it carries a lot of weight, it don’t carry any
weight both the statements are true.

Many a times it has been seen many successful people got
in to business and has been very successful and their acts
have been followed by many Management Gurus.

Many Management Gurus are not MBA, it’s a very unique the content are
a permutation and combination of different subjects and constantly
changing.

But the question come can you teach anybody swimming on the ground.
The answer is –NO, you have to take a plunge in the swimming pool
, and gulp some water and over a period of time you come to know
the freestyle swimming, tend of course after you master freestyle,
you become a specialist in BUTTERFLY, 100M, 200M, etc.

The most important task you have to DELIVER.
Yes deliver; what you deliver is the most important thing,
at what speed, at what cost, at what accuracy, at what value
add you do.

All the above factors are measurable with high-end software.

The Business schools are trying to ship shape the whole curriculum
to fit in the need of the Future Leaders.

""The MBAs have to look to the social sectors and the CSR which will be an important aspect in today’s business.
Life of the new breed of MBA’s are going to get tough, the recruiters aren’t able to put money for training, but should be self-starters, take up leadership position over a period of time.
With rising interest in corporate social responsibility and increasing doubt in the sanctity of institutions, an evolving breed of MBA student is surveying the business landscape with a more discerning eye and demanding a new type of education. One person who feels this shift acutely is Blair Sheppard, dean of Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. Sheppard has a prime view of this maelstrom of forces—changing expectations from students, different contours of global business, new management issues for educational institutions—and a unique perspective on what these portend for business students and business schools alike. He spoke in New York with McKinsey Quarterly editor Allen Webb about where MBA education stands in the wake of the financial crisis.

Fresh MBA & Engineers : Tough Time Don't Last,It's The Tough People Who Last.

First of all a big congratulation for becoming an Engineer and MBA.

Fresh MBA’s & Engineers should not loose heart during these turbulent times.

Well there has been lot of talks regarding the requirements or the fresh MBA Engineers all across the world.

Economic Meltdown is to be blamed for the reasons for no job, no takers for these young professionals.

Over supply of engineers and MBA in the market, they are not in a bargaining position with their employers , the salaries offered can not fend their cost and the hefty EMI they have to pay for the loans they took for studying Engineering and MBA, the competition has become intense, only sales jobs are there in the market, even a finance,HR,Systems specialisation are doing sales jobs, difficult to keep the job, target pressure is too high etc etc..

One very common attributes that both engineers and MBAs have is the problem solving capabilities. Both are trained in their respective fields to solve problems. Both are hired and paid for solving problems. They are in the midst of a global recession and this has become a problem for getting a right kind of job.Now it's a question of the right kind of mind set and attitude for solving their own problem.

Nothing to worry, education if it’s proper will certainly be in use if not today later on.

Some little suggestions to these young guys who are really feeling the pinch just after getting out of the college and are deprived of jobs to their expectations.

There are silver lining behind the dark clouds these adversities has to be converted into opportunities.

1. Tough time doesn’t last, it’s the tough people last, and the crisis will be over sooner or later.

2. Have patience, take this as a challenge, what ever job you get just grab it and try to prove yourselves. It may be a humble beginning but the experience can come very handy later on. Remember a professional is a person who is indebted to his knowledge first then to the organization where he is giving his service. It's like Dale Carnegie way of looking at a lemon,if you get a lemon make a lemonade out of it.

3. It’s the time when you can rally introspect yourself and make a complete SWOT analysis. A councilor can help you out. It’s the right time when you can find a proper niche for yourself and be focused.

4. Look out for business opportunities; this is the right time to be self employed use your extra sills to get self employed. Capital will be your innovative idea and energy and knowledge you have with you which is an assets. Please don’t make it NPA ( Non Performing assets). It's your APR ( Absolute Personal Responsibility)to manage you performance.

5. Right time to get some extra qualifications if possible with a minimum cost, and in today’s knowledge driven economy a person has to remain a student through out his life.

6. Be very Pro Active always look out for opportunities never allow an opportunity to flow away from your hands between your fingers. A little bit of Out of The Box Thinking can help you out.Right time to use your very own networking and PR.

7. Optimism can always gives positive results in life it's the Pygmalion effect in you which may play wonders. Remember you guys have got immense potential don't mis use it,use it you to the hilt.

8. Go back to Point No 1.

You can be a Jack Walch and a Lee Iaccoca one day ,you have it in you, try to extract 100% from you , you are your own master ,never take an Ostrich like attitude.

Don't worry be happy.

A small guidelines - Enjoy it!!
